almirida is a small village with a pleasant shallow beach located in the bay of Souda. Further up the hill (and 10 minutes on foot from the beach), the village of Plaka is also popular because it is very quiet with superb views of the bay of Souda and the White Mountains. Limited public transport so it is best to have your own car if you want to move around. Almirida is located 25 km from Hania with buses 2 or 3 times a day only. Atmosphere Almirida is still pretty laid back although tourism has become well developed. Accommodation New hotels have been built in the past few years so there is plenty to choose from. Restaurants A few good restaurants. Shopping Basic. You will find more in Kalives, 4 km away. Nightlife A couple of bars. Beach A pleasant sandy beach with shallow water. Georgioupolis is on the National Highway from Chania to Rethimnon: 39km from Chania, 20km from Rethimnon. It is a small town with hotels, restaurants and cafes, a sandy beach and a wildlife refuge. Georgioupolis is the beginning of a 10 kilometre stretch of beach that runs beside the highway from Chania to Rethimnon.
Georgioupolis is situatedin a region with plenty of water and old trees.

Georgioupoli is built at the "Almiro Pass" on the ancient road between east and west Crete; the bridge of "Elleniki Kamara" still survives. Georgioupoli was built on the site of the ancient city of Amphimala and close to Crete's unique lake, Limni Kourna. The village has spread out considerably in recent years along the clean extended beach that stretches for some 9 kilometres in the direction of Rethymnon. The area has been declared a nature reserve and has a rich flora and fauna.A tourist can visit evergreen Vryses, the villages of Maza and Alikampos with their Byzantine churches, and Kalamitsia and other places.
In the coastal district of Kourna Kavros a lively tourist industry has lately grown up on the endless beach, where every facility can be found.
The main village of Kournas is old and has interesting architecture, with the important Byzantine church of Agios Georgios, and also Agia Eirini. Interesting visits can be made to the local traditional villages of Kastelos, Patima, Phylaki, etc.
Three rivers run intothe sea at Georgioupolis.
The road bridge crosses the largest, the Almiros, whose mouth creates
the small harbour.Today Georgioupoli is an excellent tourist resort. Every summer Georgioupolis village comes to life with residents and tourists meeting in the numerous cafe-bars, ouzeries, restaurants and tavernas. Many small souvenir shops wellcome the visitors as they take a stroll.
The beach is busy with people enjoying the sand, the sea, and a drink at the beach bars. Idylic  places around the rivers and marshy areas can still be found despite the increase in construction. Impressive and beautiful scenery is backed by the panorama of the White Mountains.
